Swine Farm
Project Details
System Size:
65 kW
Location:
North Carolina
Commissioned:
2012
Fuel:
Biogas
The swine farm is in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and boasts nine barns housing 8,640 swine. The waste is flushed to an anaerobic digester where biogas production from the covered basin is estimated to be 50,400 ft3/day. The biogas is piped to a Capstone CR65 microturbine to generate electricity. The farm’s anaerobic digester-based system reduces greenhouse gas emissions and environmental waste while also offsetting some of the facilities electrical demands. The system is generating carbon offset credits of approximately 5,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents per year and produce enough electricity to earn approximately 500 RECs per year.
