St. Croix Microgrid
US Virgin Islands
In the US Virgin Islands, reliability in power generation is highly sought after. Attempting to eliminate dependency on grid production, the microgrid implemented in St. Croix combines technologies to produce an efficient and reliable power system. The Capstone C1000 microturbine systems burning propane stored onsite contributes to electricity generation. In addition, 750kW of solar and a 625 kW tesla battery offer additional generation and energy storage. The microturbines run in parallel with the solar and battery, while the utility is back up. The site maintained reliable production even in the face of severe storms such as Hurricane Maria.
